This video series, developed as an initiative of the RCWT, is designed to help train Direct Support Professionals (DSP) and inform stake holders on the importance of the Core Competencies and Code of Ethics. There are seven videos in this series. The videos can be viewed online in the Resources listed below and all accompanying training materials can be downloaded for you use. 1. Core Competencies Orientation (10 Minutes)

2. Redefining the Role of the DSP: Moving from Caregiver to Support Professional (36 minutes) – PART 1 & PART 2

This video focuses on teaching DSPs, Frontline Supervisors, and other manager and clinicians how to utilize the Core Competencies, the Code of Ethics, and the Empowerment Strategies to best support people with disabilities. 3. Demonstrating Professionalism (22 Minutes)

This video includes six vignettes that show DSPs in challenging situations. These real life scenarios prompt discussion on how to demonstrate professionalism in the workplace using the Core Competencies. Training Manual is available for download below. 4. How to Supervise Using the Core Competencies and Code of Ethics (35 Minutes)

Through this video, specific strategies for supervision are taught by showing a seasoned supervisor supervising two staff who are learning how to implement the Core Competencies, Code of Ethics, and Empowerment Strategies. 5. What Families Need to Know about the Changing Roles and Expectations of Direct Support Staff (15 Minutes)

Families of people with disabilities are rightfully concerned about the quality of staff who are working with their family member. This video will illustrate from a family’s point-of-view the importance of this higher level of competency. Discussion points are available for download below. 6. Informed Decision-Making (36 Minutes)

This video highlights a multi-step process to show how staff can utilize informed decision-making. This is shown through a number of vignettes of people who need various levels of support while making informed decisions. Training manual is available for download below. 7. Being Active and Productive in the Community (25 Minutes)

This video demonstrates useful techniques on how to support persons to become more active and productive in the community. Practicing fresh, individualized methods can lead to greater opportunities and success for the person being support. Training manual is available for download below.
